The death of a loved one is a difficult time. Clear thinking is often times replaced with confusion. Family and friends mean more but words come harder. During this time a family needs the help of a professional to provide a steady influence and offer council. This is the understanding we bring at Flanner & Buchanan.

Like any major event, a death brings numerous decisions to make in a short time. In an ideal situation, the deceased has made his/her funeral and cemetery wishes known in advance. If not the family must decide to have:

  • A traditional funeral with a calling and a service and burial

  • A full non-traditional service

  • A memorial service with or without the body present

  • A cremation with the body or the ashes present with cemetery inurnment or scattering

  • A cremation with a memorial service and/or reception

  • A variation of the above

Pre-Planning Guide

Merchandise

As a funeral service we believe in the value of personalization, sharing memories and coming to grips with the reality of a death. At times, families believe that a simple cremation is more convenient and later regret not saying goodbye to their loved one in a proper way. A person was once overheard saying "we make a big fuss over the birth of a baby that is brand new to the world and under celebrate the death of someone that has lived a full rewarding life!"

Like any event, we all have opinions about what is appropriate for us. But it has been proven that viewing the body of a loved one in a peaceful state makes it easier for family and friends to say goodbye and gain closure with that loved one.

Our funeral professionals are here to help YOU decide what is right for your family. For generations, Flanner & Buchanan has prided itself in offering a wide range of services to fit any budget. The choices are yours.

We serve families throughout Central Indiana and even have locations at numerous area cemeteries, some complete with after-service reception rooms.

This web site is not intended to replace the value of communicating face to face with an experienced professional to plan the details of a funeral. Our staff can answer questions over the telephone, respond to an e-mail or come to your home or office. If you wish to begin making pre-arrangements for yourself, guidance is available through our Funeral Planning Notebook. For those that may be adverse to the planning process, we have developed funeral packages that you can purchase now.

As a family-owned business that has been serving Central Indiana for over 120 years, we are honored by the trust you have placed in us.

Our heartfelt thanks goes to you from the Buchanan family and all of our associates.

KEEPING YOUR FUNDS SAFE
Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Centers
Prearrangement Funding Policy

Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Centers helps hundreds of Indianapolis-area residents every year with their funded prearrangements.  It is our policy to fully disclose all aspects of the contract and how this money is secured for your protection.

Prearrangement funds are placed in either:

Insurance
An insurance product is used to protect the funeral prearrangement contract from inflation.  Flanner and Buchanan currently use a product provided by Homesteaders Insurance Company.  Homesteaders Life serves 3,000 funeral homes nationwide and has over $1.23 billion in policy reserves.  Homesteaders have a B++ Secure rating from A.M. Best.

Trust
For the elderly or those facing eminent death, Flanner and Buchanan places all contract monies in the Master Choice Funeral Trust.  This fund is provided through the Indiana Funeral Directors Association.   All of the Trust’s funds are deposited with the Trust Department of Fifth Third Bank.  Thus, the services and merchandise prices of your funeral pre-arrangement are secure.  You’ll get what you arranged for, regardless of inflation.
